Somebody once said that bravery and foolishness go hand in hand. Yesterday I saw dat happening in action. We had the most awesome celebrations last nite, with pooja, special food n fireworks. In fireworks there’s a thing many of us guys do, we try to light a bomb in our hands and throw it just before it explodes, so dat the explosion happens mid-air. Foolishness, definitely but most people do it and the trick is to throw it well in advance. However as one’s expertise increases, u tend to delay the throwing later and later n dats where it gets really really foolish. This story is about two of my classmates, Sandipan and Abhineet. They tried exactly wat I was explaining earlier (the bomb throwin) with disastrous results. One burnt his hand badly, while the other’s finger was twisted badly.
And this is where the bravery comes in. Both of them though badly injured don’t moan or groan throughout the journey to the local hospital, it was only in the latter part that Sandipan began breathing loudly. Abhineet though in pain himself, held Sandy’s wrist tight so dat it wouldn’t pain him. After Sandy was taken into casualty, Abhineet was chatting happily with us as if he was perfectly fine(though it turned out he had a fracture). Sandy too didn’t shout even when the doctor was cleaning his charred skin. (Actually the burns were so serious dat the doctor called us in to verify whether these were really cracker burns or something else?) He was given about 7 injections in a space of 20 minutes and still managed to keep chatting happily. The hospital staff brought in a wheel chair to escort him, but Sandy walked out on his two feet. Who ever said Management guys aren’t tuff?
I also had the opportunity to get a lot of Gyaan from Sandy. I don’t know whether it was the morphine effect speaking, but Sandy actually sounded pretty sensible. He had me convinced that each person should have a girlfriend. Incidentally, Sandy has a verrrry concerned girlfriend (lucky guy) who kept phoning to find out how he is? In the end I (in a spate of jealousy) had to switch off his cell so dat he could get some rest. Morphine Sandy then raised a point about the cultural difference between metros and other cities and how he had to alter his behaviour towards people (especially girls) after coming to IIMK. With this point I had to agree, because what may be considered proper in one place, might be considered highly improper elsewhere. But then I’d add that the people at K (at least the ones I know) seem fine in that respect.
Now one thing my blog is not is that it’s never serious. Today 14 nov is Children’s day in India celebrated after Jawaharlal Nehru’s Birthday. And it’s a living example of love in India. Confused, well actually it’s pretty simple. For J. Nehru to be born today he must’ve been conceived 9 months before dat n wat day could dat be? Yes, you guessed right, dats Valentines Day. How romantic naa? One can never guess wat Senior Nehru must’ve given to his wife dat day. But an outside guess, it was probably made of Khadi hee hee.
Diwali is renown,
As the festival of lights.
The festival of happiness,
When everything goes right.
But when your stupid action,
Results in something bad,
This festival of joy n fun,
Can turn into something sad.
Remember that your each action,
Doesn’t affect u alone.
There’s someone who loves u dearly,
Waiting for you at home.
Happy Diwali
N till the next time
