an ocean of humanity,
Striving, working,
Searching for my own identity.
I hear the waves crashing,
on the rocks of time.
Do I still believe in the fantasy,
that the entire world is mine.
I look out at the ocean,
I am humbled by it's sheer size.
Its tenacity is enviable,
receding waves that will once again rise.
I can only imagine my life,
my fate, my destiny.
the joy of successes,
the failures, the agony.
Thousands have come,
thousands will go.
shaping my life,
in a way I never know.
I have a lifefull of unknowns,
a life that I only shall live.
Prepare me oh lord,
for the experiences this life will give.
The photo was taken at Bekal fort, which is around 170 kms from Kozhikode. Beautiful, pristine, untouched. Every nook and corner as beautiful as beautiful can be. Our journey started on 10th August at around 1500, 1/2 an hour late thanx to urs truly.
Five of us (Anurag, Mayank, Metro, Prashant and me) set out for an unforgettable journey. Our first stop was Mahe, the beauty of this place is that it is a union territory, so excise is preety low, which meant that we filled up our bikes with low cost petrol. Being a majority of teetotallers and with our final destination being Prashant's house, we did not buy the low cost alcohol, the place is known for. Believe me, every corner has a wine shop.Anyway our late departure and necessity of reaching Prashant's home before 9, reduced our stoppages, but yours truly still managed a phone full of pictures.
Being the only guy not knowing to ride a bike I was riding pillion with thalaywaar aka Metro. It didnt matter though cause I had loaded my mem with enuff songs to last the entire trip. However Metro turned out to be an interesting conversationalist. One sentence that I would remember for a long time was his advice (to me) on marriage. Metro says" You must not marry the girl you can live with, rather one must marry the girl one cannot live without".
His recent interest in water bodies meant that he slowed down at most bridges
allowing me to add to my little photo collection. We reached Kasargod at around 9:15. Prashant's family were happy to see us on time because of the transport strike. I must say that I have very rarely been party to such high levels of hospitality. Our coming inconvenienced them no end what with us taking over an entire room to ourself. The food was excellent, served on banana leaves and I must admit I wanted to pig out more, but stopped just because of fatigue and body pain. The pain was centred around the region below my lower back (My butt to be precise :D). The CBZ has one of the worst seats I have ever sat on in my entire life. It is not in the least meant for long drives.
Though
dead tired and very sleepy, we gossiped about every topic under the sun. Frequent jokes and anectodes kept us in splits. Mayank, the loudest laugher in our group must surely have woken up half the neighbourhood. When we slept god only knows. The morning was fun too. Chetta's house has a beautiful courtyard, very picturesque. we spent our morning exploring taking pictures. Reminded me of my mother's old house in Pathnapuram. Maybe thats where well head next time.
Anywayz after a good scrumptious breakfast, topped with sevaiya paysam, we set out to our destination - Bekal Fort.
The fort is famous for a song picturisation in the movie Bombay. And believe me it looks a hundred times better in person. Our first sight of the fort left us agape. This was no small settlement, but was infact a humungous fort with coastal fortifications and all.We began walking along one side, with a slight drizzle over our heads, wondering how on earth would we explore the entire fort. The adventurous Mayank was soon scrambling along the walls. Metro followed, but the sheer drop dissuaded him from any further climbing. Thakur, me and chetta were more interested in the scenery than wall climbing. Every rampart was lined with watch holes through
which a cannon could shell the enemy. The coastal side was a sheer drop, with rocks forming a natural fortification. The coupe de grace was the small little watch area, situated at some distance from the main fort connected via a small path. Its the same small structure
visible in the first picture of the post. From here the fort looked even more beautiful, almost magical. There was this constant spray of water over the ramparts onto the rocks. We felt very small in front of the huge ocean waves that sprayed us with salty water droplets. Bekal fort was really the most beautiful structure Id ever seen. Maybe its my lack of travelling or knowledge, but it is one place you must visit at least once in a lifetime.
into the sea again. This beach too was untouched. We seemed to be among the few tourists at the spot. The entire beach, full of clean sand, and blue water. There were the ocassional fishermenwho were netting in their catch. They looked at us and our antics with a mix of amazement and amusement. The trip over, classes have begun in full flow. I somehow still cannot believe that we experienced something so wonderful in such short a time. Maybe it was all a dream. Even if it wasnt, it was so much better than one. The sound of the waves crashing on the rocks are still in my ears. The images captured in my heart. An experience I truly shall never forget.
Luv,
P.R.
well truly another memorable journey! when one considers we covered 400 odd kms within 30 hours...it has to be attributed to the enthu of the group.

ReplyDeleteNitai, no words would suffice here coz the truth of the matter is, it really slipped out of my mind. i admit i HAD READ ur comment in the last post. and should and WOULD have invited you to join in. it would have been merrier to have you also in the trip. but trust me the thought somehow spilled out in the last minute hurry. hope you dont take it personally. all i can say now is that you are more than welcome to join us in our next endeavour (which would happen pretty soon). but only thing is we wont be looking for too many people. already there are 5 of us. so one more would be ideal. one final word : SORRY!!!
